for Elephants

Introduction

“for Elephants” is focused on people education related to the Asian elephant. The aim of the project is to inform and educate Nepali young people regarding elephants' situation in Nepal (wild and captive), their needs, their often-difficult cohabitation with humans, and the importance of conservation and protection of elephants.

The project will design creative communication material on the Asian elephant and its situation in Nepal (and more generally in Asia). The elephant's physiological constitution as an animal; its normal living conditions and its needs in the wild; increasing threats encountered in the last 50 years (to be considered in the light of the wider issue of conservation and environment protection); the issue of its captivity and the numerous problems deriving from the captivity conditions in Nepal/Asia; and the answers and tentative solutions proposed by StandUp4Elephants in Nepal will be covered broadly.

Vidheha Ranjan, eight years old, has been selected as the prototype artist to address elephant related issues in creative manners. She is writing articles, taking photos highlighted through exhibitions at the Patan Museum and elsewhere, making artwork and taking on actions that will help galvanize and set an example for other young people in Nepal and around the world.

Her work will proactively present this information in an articulated way to Nepali students of all age groups based on an age-adjusted communication, as well as to any other interests.

Dedicated publications and exhibitions intended for educational organizations and authorities, animal protection organizations and national media will be organized and shared within the Spiny Babbler network of young people related organizations such as pre-schools, schools, colleges, shelter homes, rehabilitation centers, child-youth-community clubs.
